Waterscape by mcdermottbaxter Light Studio

Spectacular by day and night, “Waterscape” was created by mcdermottbaxter Light Studio – a collaboration between renowned light artists Ruth McDermott and Ben Baxter, who have permanent sculptures at The Rocks and Pitt Street Mall in Sydney and have had their work exhibited at Vivid Sydney and in exhibitions throughout Germany.

Waterscape comprises 300 suspended lights in the shape of a river and is a tribute to Sydney’s many waterways, particularly the lesser-known lakes and tributaries like the Cumberland Plains, which play an equally vital role in sustaining eco systems.

In this way, Waterscape is intended as a reminder that even small things can have a great impact. The many creeks that run through the Cumberland Plain in Western Sydney are just as important as the magnificent Sydney Harbour for which the city is known. It is a reminder that small actions, conversations and deeds can still be powerful.

Waterscape is also intended to mirror the flow of movement and energy though public spaces like Westpoint, where people can connect and become part of a collective, much like streams running together into a river.

View the light installation along the walkway outside the new Zone Bowling and Timezone on Level 4. It turns on at 5pm in summer and 4pm in winter and turns off at 12 midnight all year round.
