How to have a happy Harmony Day

It may be one of the lesser known days in the calendar, but it’s certainly an important one. 2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Harmony Day, and there’s a lot to celebrate. In fact, from this year on, Harmony Day is being upgraded to Harmony Week. Because one day just isn’t enough!

What is Harmony Week?

Harmony Week is a celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity - something we should all be very proud of and show our support for. Australia is one of the most multicultural countries in the world. Did you know that more than 200 languages are spoken across Australia?

Harmony Week runs from the 17-23 March, 2019. The week is all about inclusivity by celebrating our cultural differences as well as our similarities in core values that we all share as Australians.

How can you get involved?
Throughout Harmony Week there are plenty of activities and events around town to get involved in. But the biggest way to get onboard is by wearing something orange!

As a symbol of joy, encouragement, freedom and expression, it makes sense that orange has been chosen as the colour to represent Harmony Week. As Harmony Week gets closer, it’s time to dig through your cupboard or go on an orange shopping spree! Throughout Harmony Week, everyone is encouraged to dress in orange. Check with your school to see if they’re hosting a Harmony Day orange free dress day that the kids can get involved in.
