Tracks and Cycle by Maddie Gibbs and Jason Wing

The murals each tell a story about Blacktown’s heritage, character and its people.

“Tracks” interprets Blacktown’s history as a fringe city for Aboriginal people and other migrants, with the township sitting at the end of a colonial train line. The union between cultures today is represented by two heads at the end of each track.

Tracks is paired with “Cycle” which continues the story of friendship and respect between people of different nationalities who have made Blacktown their home.

Inspired by vivid international fabrics seen throughout Blacktown, Cycle also embraces the natural beauty of the region, with a rainbow design reminiscent of surrounding mountains and waterways.

Both artworks have been influenced by the heritage of artists Maddison Gibbs and Jason Wing.

Maddie Gibbs is a proud Barkindji woman who currently lives and works between Sydney and Kandos, NSW, and is known for both her art and activism.

Jason Wing draws on his Chinese and Aboriginal roots to create powerful paintings and photomedia which explore and challenge social narratives.
